Nokia smartphones in 2010 can easily be described as the best-looking devices weve seen from the company in a long while. Whats more, with the arrival of the Symbian^3 operating system, theyre also the most versatile and powerful around. Which are our favourites? Join us after the jump as we look at the top 5 Nokia smartphones of 2010
Back at the tail-end of 2009, Nokia stated that it would be cutting back on the number of devices it launched in any one year. This certainly prove the case in the first half of 2010 but with the arrival of Symbian^3 OS we saw a flurry of activity that with some great Nokia smartphones appearing. Here we look at the five Nokia smartphones that really peaked our interest.
We may have had to wait longer than expected to get our hands on the Nokia N8 but when it finally arrived in October we were more than happy. Awarded our first ever 5-star rating, the Nokia N8 delivers everything we hoped it would the design is spot-on and the 3.5-inch AMOLED screen is a pleasure to view. The first smartphone to pack Symbian^3 inside, the multiple Homescreens and easy switching between apps is a joy. Whats more, this has become a gaming powerhouse but were using it for more everyday tasks too.
Nokia E7-00
Could the Nokia E7-00 be the heavy-weight users new best friend? We think so, as its 4-inch touchscreen, slide-out full QWERTY keyboard and Symbian^3 operating system add up to one mighty fine piece of kit. The shaping and style is similar to the Nokia N8 and the build quality of the samples weve checked out has been great. What will impress people the most is just how slim Nokia has made this device, making it perfect for the busy traveller as well as the hectic social butterfly trying to keep their social networking in check.
Nokia C6-01
We may have only sample the Nokia C6-01 in preview mode to date but we have a feeling this may well become the entry-level smartphone users new best friend. With a 3.2-inch touchscreen, the Nokia C6-01 is a lot more compact than the other Symbian^3 handsets but doesnt skimp on the features and functions. The screen uses capacitive technology, making it responsive and easy to use, and the AMOLED panel is set to be the first Nokia smartphone to use CBD (Clear Black Display), resulting in stunningly vibrant colours.
Nokia C7-00
The Nokia C7-00 shares many similarities with the Nokia N8, youll find a similar glass and stainless steal finish and the curved and slim design is helped by a smaller camera housing. The big difference is the easy-removal battery pack. Also using the Symbian^3 OS you can instantly tap into all the functions this smartphone has to offer, including Wi-Fi and 3G. Designed for those who dont need (or want) the full powerhouse capabilities of the Nokia N8, the Nokia C7-00, this bargain smartphone could be the surprise hit of the year.
Nokia E5-00
When it comes to QWERTY messenger devices the Nokia E72 pretty much rules the roost but with the arrival of the Nokia E5 we got a more relaxed and consumer focussed take on the businessmans favourite. Youll find the same 2.4-inch screen size, same use of a cracking QWERTY keyboard with individual keys with a rubber coating, and even the same 5-Megapixel CCD camera setup. However, there are subtle differences that make the Nokia E5-00 a device in its own right.
