Fostering a Global Mobile Application Ecosystem
Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, announced the launch of the first global commercial WAC enabled app store and mobile phone with the Philippines' leading carrier, Smart Communications ("SMART"). The solution is fully compliant with the Wholesale Applications Community (WAC)'s 1.0 specifications - an alliance of telecommunications companies committed to building an open applications platform, which provides carriers with a unified service platform that aggregates mobile internet applications, enables more revenue generation and ultimately delivers a better cloud-based service experience to end users.
WAC is an application delivery center with applications submitted by global developers. The platform provides opportunities for global developers to create, synchronize and sell applications using standard and open Application Programmable Interfaces (APIs). It also helps carriers maintain sustainable competitive advantages through transforming themselves from a walled-garden approach to applications development to one that fosters innovation and ease of execution based on a global mobile ecosystem paradigm.
"Huawei is fully supportive of WAC and its vision and is committed to continue to develop and deliver the right applications development platform in alignment with WAC specifications for our member carriers and applications developers," said Dr. Haiping Che, CTO and Vice President of Huawei Software. "We were honored that SMART has chosen us to be their strategic partner for the rollout of its applications store this year, which represents the first commercial use of the platform."
The practice of carrier members linking to the application value chain only at the beginning and at the terminus is now a thing of the past. Our industry leading end-to-end solution of WAC revolutionized the entire experience, bringing about a paradigmatic shift in positioning carrier members as a link anywhere in the applications value chain by enabling app store, settlement platform, gateway and mobile devices such as Android. Under this paradigm, global developers can now access a common set of network APIs across all carriers' networks, including powerful network functions such as location-based service, messaging services (SMS/MMS) and in-application billing to enhance stickiness and other features of the applications. This will be a boon to application development lifecycle, modularity, engineering efforts and reusability of modules.
Carriers can also look to and leverage the capabilities that a WAC enabled settlement platform delivers to fulfill their needs for full partner lifecycle management, ranging partner registration, to settlement, payment and reporting. These modular functionalities, coupled with the built-in product and customer intelligence, are working together seamlessly to foster an applications development environment that enables the developers to focus on creating innovative and compelling end-user applications, and for the operators to shorten time-to-market and remain competitive in their respective countries.

LG Optimus 3D ushers in a new era for smartphones
Breakthrough smartphone brings together high performance with full 3D experience
Barcelona LG Electronics (LG) officially unveiled the eagerly-awaited LG Optimus 3D, the high-performance smartphone offering the worlds first full 3D experience, at Mobile World Congress 2011.
The LG Optimus 3D introduces a number of innovative first technologies, including the worlds first dual-core, dual-channel and dual-memory architecture as well as the first 3D platform allowing for recording, viewing and sharing of 3D content.
Superb Performance with Unique Tri-Dual Configuration
The LG Optimus 3D is a showcase of superior speed and power made possible with LGs unique tri-dual configuration -- dual-core, dual-channel and dual-memory. This configuration enables users to enjoy significantly improved performance and run-time compared to smartphones offering 1GHz dual-core processors.
Unlike other single-channel, single-memory dual-core smartphones, the LG Optimus 3D offers significant performance benefits as a result of the simultaneous -- and thus faster -- transfer of data between the dual-core and dual-memory. Users can browse web pages, multitask between programs, play games at a higher frame rate and enjoy movies more smoothly and longer than ever before.
Backed by a combination of superb performance and full 3D, were excited about the prospects of the LG Optimus 3D taking the smartphone experience to a much higher level, said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Mobile Communications Company. Weve incorporated every feature for the power user and we think theyll be pleased with what they see.
Worlds First Full 3D Experience: 3D Recording-Viewing-Sharing
The LG Optimus 3Ds dual 5MP lens camera allows users to capture and record their best moments as images and videos in 3D anytime, anywhere. The LG Optimus 3Ds 4.3-inch WVGA display faithfully recreates the 3D experience without the use of glasses. The display provides bright and flicker-free images allowing users to view 2D (up to 1080p) and 3D (up to 720p) multimedia content. And users can navigate through the devices 3D interface with the click of LGs unique 3D Hot Key which presents five 3D-dedicated UIs, including Gallery, Camera, Game&Apps, YouTube 3D and 3D Guide.
Captured 3D content is easily shared via an HDMI 1.4 connection to 3D TVs and monitors and also is compatible with DLNA Certified products. Whats more, users can easily upload and stream 3D content and share each others creations on YouTubes dedicated 3D channel (youtube.com/3D).
The LG Optimus 3D will be rolled-out globally starting with Europe early in the second quarter. The phone will initially be released with Android 2.2 (Froyo) and will be upgradeable to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). The upgrade schedule will be announced in local markets in due course.

This is an ideal solution for editing document layouts, as it allows mobile edits to be made to the scans image quality and file type, and provides a choice between color or black and white scans.
FASTER PHOTO AND TRAVEL ITINERARY PRINTS
Samsungs Mobile Print/Scan app brings a new dimension to mobile photography by providing users with a way to select and print multiple images simultaneously through their Samsung devices photo gallery. It also saves time for frequent travelers who need to print e-tickets, flight confirmations or other itineraries at the last minute by using their mobile devices SD card.
The Samsung Mobile Print/Scan app will be available for free this winter. It will be built-in to the Galaxy Tab beginning in 2011. The application will be compatible with all existing and new Samsung wireless and network printers.

SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES ITS NEXT GENERATION PORTABLE ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM
Ultimate Portable Entertainment System Makes Its Debut This Year,
Further Expanding the PlayStation Business in the Portable Gaming Market
Tokyo Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) announced its next generation portable entertainment system (codename: NGP), which delivers the ultimate portable entertainment experience. NGP will make its debut at the end of the year 2011.
NGP is designed to offer unparalleled interactive entertainment that is only possible on PlayStation. This new system offers a revolutionary combination of rich gaming and social connectivity within a real world context, made possible by leveraging SCE's experience from both PSP (PlayStationPortable) and PlayStation3 (PS3) entertainment systems.
Deep and immersive gaming is at the core of PlayStation's DNA, and NGP is the latest embodiment of this vision. By having both Wi-Fi and 3G network connectivity, together with various applications, NGP will enable infinite possibilities for users to "encounter," "connect," "discover," "share" and "play" with friends wherever they are. Within the device are a range of features that provide a genuinely cutting-edge, next generation ultimate portable entertainment experience.
Stunning OLED and Revolutionary User Interface
NGP incorporates a beautiful multi-touch 5-inch organic light emitting display (OLED) as the front display. A high-performance CPU / GPU combined with OLED enables rich, visually striking graphics never seen before on a portable entertainment system, for both games and other digital entertainment content. The new system also incorporates a unique multi-touch pad on the rear, and together with the front touch display, NGP offers new game play allowing users to interact directly with games in three dimension-like motion, through "touch, grab, trace, push and pull" moves of the fingers.
Super Oval Design and Dual Analog Sticks
While succeeding the basic design philosophy of PSP, NGP adopts the Super Oval Design form factor, created to fit comfortably in users' hands. For the first time, a portable entertainment system will feature two analog sticks, which enable a wider range of game genres to be brought into the portable experience.
LiveArea
Every game title for NGP will be provided with a space called "LiveArea" where users can share the fun and excitement with other players. Users will have access to the latest information of games provided from SCE and 3rd party developers and publishers through PlayStationNetwork. Additionally, NGP users will be able to view an "Activity" log that is constantly updated with accomplishments from users who are playing the same game, which in turn can trigger active real-time communication among users.
Near
SCE will also provide location-based services on NGP as part of the basic features utilizing PlayStation Network. The new application called "Near," developed specifically for this service and the network, will be pre-installed in the system to let users find out what their friends in the vicinity are playing now or what they were playing recently. Users can meet their friends and new players virtually, regardless of what games they are playing, simply by sharing their game information across different dimensions of time and distance.
New Game Medium
NGP adopts a new game medium, a small flash memory based card, dedicated for NGP software titles. Taking advantage of the flash memory feature, this innovative card can store the full software titles plus add-on game content or the game save data directly on to the card. By adopting flash memory based card, SCE will be able to provide game cards with higher capacity in the future, allowing developers to store more game data to deliver rich and immersive games.
NGP will also come equipped with two cameras on its front and rear, as well as three motion sensors, gyroscope, accelerometer and electronic compass, all of which are designed to enable users to enjoy the world of entertainment that is linked with real life experiences.
PlayStationSuite (PS Suite), announced today, will also closely coordinate with NGP. The newly developed and released game content for Android based portable devices can also be enjoyed on NGP. As a result, users will have access to not only the most leading-edge content, but also some of the more casual experiences that typify the mobile market place.
SCE will vigorously promote NGP towards the launch as the next generation portable entertainment platform and deploy various measures to further expand the portable gaming market.
