Contestants can win the chance to attend the 2011 NFL draft in New York City.

NEW YORK-Verizon and Motorola Mobility Inc. are teaming up to offer consumers a chance of a lifetime for any football fan: a trip to the 2011 NFL Draft. The Motorola Draft Day Experience sweepstakes will reward one lucky winner with an all-expenses-paid trip to the event, to be held April 28-30 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Anyone can enter the contest online at www.motorola.com/draftdayexperience. Contestants will be asked to provide their e-mail address and view a brief video about Verizon's FiOS services. The entry period is currently open and lasts through March 31. One grand-prize winner will receive a trip for two, including airfare, hotel and tickets to the 2011 NFL Draft as well as $500 in spending money. Ten first-prize winners will receive tickets to draft parties hosted by NFL teams.

"Past success with these types of promotions has shown that FiOS customers are also avid football fans," said John Wimsatt, senior vice president of marketing for Verizon. "Our customers know that Verizon offers an incredible football offering that can't be beat, with TV, broadband and wireless services delivered over our advanced networks. We're thrilled to once again work with Motorola and offer such a unique opportunity."
Jean Pierre Le Cannellier, vice president of marketing, Motorola Mobility, said, "Motorola is excited to once again join Verizon in promoting their FiOS NFL offering and highlighting the extensive range of advanced FiOS services available to consumers. The contest follows last year's Ultimate Game Day Access sweepstakes, through which Verizon and Motorola provided one fan with a trip to Super Bowl XLV in North Texas. The contests help to enhance Verizon's extensive football offerings, at no additional cost.

In addition, FiOS TV offers NFL RedZone, which features every touchdown from every game on Sunday afternoons and delivers exciting moments as they happen. The channel keeps fans up-to-date in real time, switching from game to game with live look-ins, highlights and a chance to see the key plays in both high definition (FiOS TV Channel 835) and standard definition (FiOS TV Channel 335).

Verizon FiOS TV offers a broad collection of programming, with more than 520 all-digital channels including up to 138 HD channels and 19,000 monthly video-on-demand titles. Motorola and Cox Break World Record in Data Transmission Rates

Multiple records set; demonstrates potential for greater bandwidth efficiency and additional revenue opportunities for broadband operators.

ATLANTA-CableLabs Winter Conference Motorola Mobility Inc. (NYSE: MMI) announced the achievement of a new world record for return path data transmission by using breakthrough technology from Motorola on Cox Communications Las Vegas network infrastructure.

Using the ultra low noise, high performance Motorola DOCSIS 3.0 RX48 return path receiver module operating within a Motorola BSR 64000 CMTS Edge Router, the record of 356 Mbps for a 5-85 MHz return path was set by transmitting across twelve return path channels of which six channels employed 256QAM modulation. Typical HFC networks today have two or three upstream channels delivering an aggregate of 40-70 Mbps.

The RX48 and these tests demonstrate that Coxs HFC networks are much more future proof than many have believed, Jay Rolls, senior vice president of technology, Cox Communications. We also increasingly need to be able to segment our business and residential customers, visibility into which is provided by the 5-85 MHz return spectrum utilizing 256QAM. Our networks have the capability to support much higher data speeds than today without the need to replace any of the amplifiers, taps or cables.

The test demonstrates how broadband operators can support more customers and more broadband rich services over existing networks, removing the need for inconvenient and costly new network construction. The new record also shows how the Motorola BSR 64000 CMTS Edge Router, with the RX48 can help lower the overall cost of DOCSIS for cable operators, while simultaneously opening new opportunities for business revenues.

In addition to establishing the world record at 5-85 MHz, a maximum transmission rate of 141 Mbps was also achieved over a 5-42 MHz return path using six return path channels. Three of these channels were able to operate using 256 QAM modulation, as opposed to 64 QAM maximum in use today, which is also believed to be a record. For the first time, cable operators can use the 5-42 return path to provide 100 Mbps dedicated to business customers and simultaneously provide residential customers with the return path bandwidth necessary to meet their growing needs.

All tests were conducted across Coxs Las Vegas hybrid fiber coaxial (HFC) network employing multiple DOCSIS 3.0 and DOCSIS 2.0 modems. It feeds a three amplifier cascade followed by an HFC optical link consisting of a standard Motorola DFB return path laser transmitting over 7 dB of fiber to the optical receiver. The output of this receiver was linked to the RX48 card in the BSR 64000. Measurements were made in accordance with standard cable industry practices. At the CableLabs conference, Motorola and Cox demonstrated the new record of 400 Mbps on a 5-85 MHz return path, which broke the previous record of 356Mbps

We are very pleased to show the results of Motorola Mobilitys investment in DOCSIS 3.0 innovation, said Joe Cozzolino, senior vice president and general manager, network infrastructure, Motorola Mobility. The RX48 has clearly demonstrated that we are moving once again to a position of CMTS leadership. We are grateful to Cox for jointly working with us to demonstrate the continued great future of HFC networks and proving our belief in this breakthrough technology.

About the RX48:
The RX48 provides between 33% and 50% higher data rates possible in the return path than previously possible based on its low noise receiver and hardware based DOCSIS 3.0 channel bonding capabilities. For example, with a 5-42 MHz return path connected to the RX48, it will be possible for the first time for cable operators to support 100 Mbps dedicated for business services in only three bonded return path channels instead of four, leaving three return path channels available for residential data services, all supported using only a single RX48 port in the CMTS.

Motorolas Passive Optical LAN Solution Achieves Department of Defense JITC Certification

Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) approval lays groundwork for U.S. Department of Defense to immediately begin deployments of Motorolas proven all optical LAN solution.

HORSHAM, Pa. Motorola Mobility announced their Passive Optical LAN (POL) solution has received a Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) certification from the U.S. Department of Defense. JITC certification allows for Motorolas POL to be deployed as a fixed element in Department of Defense's Information Systems Networks, ultimately helping reduce the agencys network complexity, improve security, and reduce total network life cycle costs.

The JITC certified POL solution is an economically disruptive LAN solution that greatly simplifies complex multi-tiered data networks by eliminating the local distribution switches and associated power, cooling and battery backup and dedicated telco closet space needed to support a traditional data network. POL provides direct fiber access to any stationary Ethernet end point and provides Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) to support devices such as IP phones, wireless access points, application servers and printers up to 20km from the datacenter. Motorolas POL solution offers and optional GUI based network management application called AXSvision that allows for rapid provisioning, multi-tiered user access and direct end point fault isolation directly from the datacenter.

Motorola is very pleased to have achieved this important milestone, said Joe Cozzolino, Sr. VP and GM for Network Infrastructure Solutions. Motorola has a proven history of empowering U.S. government agencies with the latest communication and technology innovations. The innovation behind POL leads to a simplified network that is highly secure, and dramatically reduces the TCO compared to traditional LAN architectures.

Motorolas POL solution is currently deployed in government agency, financial and education environments. Motorolas POL solution is comprised of a centralized Enterprise Aggregation Switch, optical Work Group Terminals with and without PoE and ASXvision and Motorolas GUI based fault, configuration, inventory, performance and security application.

For more information about Motorolas POL solutions, please visit www.motorola.com/pol.

HBO Latin America Selects Motorola Mobilitys Technology for All MPEG-4 Programming Distribution

Transition to all MPEG-4 will optimize bandwidth utilization, readying the network for delivery of more high definition services

HORSHAM, Pa. Motorola Mobility Inc. (NYSE: MMI) announced that Home Box Office (HBO) Latin America will upgrade its satellite network using MPEG-4 video encoding and DVB-S2 8PSK advanced modulation to launch all MPEG-4 programming. The solution compresses, encrypts, modulates, and receives the high definition (HD) signals within a single integrated transmission system to allow HBO Latin America to expand its HD offerings to subscribers. It also features many distribution system enhancements developed collaboratively between HBO Latin America and Motorola.

HBO Latin America will utilize Motorolas SE-5100 encoder to process HD video content and convert it to MPEG-4 format for distribution via satellite to affiliates. At the affiliates downlink sites, the content will be received and processed real-time with Motorola's new DSR-4460 digital satellite receivers and DSR-6300 multi-channel integrated receiver/transcoders (IRDs) as part of the consolidated network-wide upgrade to MPEG-4 and, eventually, all-HD service distribution.

Motorolas advanced digital distribution solution leverages bandwidth efficient compression and modulation techniques to address the unique needs and challenging demands of HBO Latin Americas customer base, said Jorge Duron, vice president and general manager, Latin America, Motorola Mobility. It is the most advanced digital delivery system ever deployed in the region, yet remains very economical due to the advanced technologies that HBO Latin America developed in close cooperation with Motorola and have applied to their network.

Demand for high definition programing continues to grow in Latin America and Motorolas commitment to the advancement of digital distribution will enable us to not only address our immediate network needs, but allow us to sustain our HD growth momentum long-term, said Emilio Otermin, vice president of operations and engineering, HBO Latin America. Working closely with Motorola, we designed an advanced digital distribution system to meet our unique needs and those of our affiliates.

HBO Latin America will use Motorolas uplink control system to execute a well-designed technology transition strategy. The new multi-format IRDs can be signaled to seamlessly transition from MPEG-2/QPSK to MPEG-4/8PSK services. The DSR-6300 IRD features a three-service MPEG-4 HD input that efficiently delivers content to the home in QAM-friendly transport bitrates, significantly increasing the number of services that can be delivered over a standard cable 256-QAM feed. The DSR-6300 also utilizes AFD (Active Format Descriptor) to translate input HD services to an appropriate standard definition (SD) service with proper aspect ratio and resolution. The DSR-4460 includes an MPEG-4 HD or SD input and a composite video SD output that also utilizes AFD. Both models of satellite receivers derive SD channels from the HD source, allowing programmers to free up additional bandwidth by transmitting the HD signal.

Nokia Siemens Networks now targets acquisition of Motorola's public carrier wireless network infrastructure assets in first quarter of 2011

- Pending regulatory approval from the authority in China
- Antitrust clearance received from US, European Union, Brazil, Japan, Russia, South Africa, Taiwan and Turkey

Nokia Siemens Networks announced that it now expects to complete its acquisition of the majority of Motorola's public carrier wireless network infrastructure assets in the first quarter of 2011. The company had expected, at the time the transaction was originally announced on July 19, 2010, to complete closing activities by the end of 2010 but the transaction has not yet received regulatory approval from the Anti-Monopoly Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce of China, which is continuing its review process. All other necessary regulatory clearances have been obtained.

"This delay is disappointing, but we're looking forward to completing the acquisition early in the new year," said Rajeev Suri, chief executive officer of Nokia Siemens Networks. "We are continuing to work closely with the authority in China to finalize the clearance process in that country. We recognize its efforts in addressing this case as a matter of importance."

Approximately 7,500 employees are expected to transfer to Nokia Siemens Networks from Motorola's public carrier wireless network infrastructure business when the transaction closes, including large research and development sites in the United States, China and India.
