It's my very first TUTORIAL!
Materials Needed: queen sized knee high stockings, 2-4 wire hangers, duct tape, hot glue, 1 strip felt, basic elastic, paint, glitter, flowers, ribbon
Step One: Twist your wire hanger to shape one of your fairy wings. Twist them together where they meet. You can either use 2 or 4 hangers, depending on what you want.
Step 2: Once you have 2 or 4 hangers twisted, join them and duct tape them in pairs, the top wings go together and bottom wings are joined together
Step 3: Stretch your queen sized knee highs over each wing and secure with more duct tape. You can use regular pantyhose or knee highs but will tend to pull the wings more together.
Step 4: Prepare your area (and yourself) for painting, with or without help...
Step 5: We used two wings for a smaller set for Sydney, age 2. We used washable paint as a base and then filled in our gaps with watercolors to give the wings an even prettier affect.
Step 6: Let wings dry overnight
Step 7: Clean up
Step 8: Once dry, paint on glue and apply with glitter! This is the fun part!
Step 9: We did this over the sink which made clean up easier. Let these dry a couple hours.
Step 10: Take a strip of felt and hot glue over the duct tape
Step 11: Measure your fairy's shoulders to find the appropriate elastic length. Once measured, stitch or knot into a loop. Do this for each shoulder.
Step 12: Apply hot glue (or stitch) onto the elastic and slide under the felt on the back of each wing.
Step 13: Let these dry...
Step 14: Apply more decorations. We used a silk flower, secured with more hot glue.
Step 15: Then we took some ribbon and hot glued a bunch under the flower petals.
The first fitting...
I'll be posting more pictures of our "double" fairy wings (still in progress). Riley is working hard to finish those and is doing them solo. It seems like a very do-able craft for little ones, with a helper!
We also thought it would be cool to make Monarch Butterfly wings with black tights and orange and yellow accents.
Enjoy!
