Just walked into Lincoln Park here in Denver after marching in the immigrant rights march. The route was strange, it passed right by Invesco Field, but no one is there until after 3pm so I am not sure what the point of it was. There were close to 5,000 people in my completely unofficial estimate. The march was also spread out along a highway overpass, so it did not pass through any residential areas. In my opinion, it was important to march and show solidarity, but the effect of the march is questionable. Nobody inside the convention is talking about immigration, no one is addressing the raids happening right now, nobody seems to feel the need to address this now. And after the trip, I have to say, it's important to address this. It's important to stop the raids and create a fair system for all people. The tacticts of DHS in the field of immigration are the tactics of a para-military, not a government committed to protecting the rights of all of it's residents.
I hope that these marches continue, that people keep screaming for a solution NOW! This cannot go on.
