IS THIS THE NEW BOND GIRL?
After a string of delays, the 23rd Bond film is finally happening and MGM may finally have their Bond girl. Pirates Of The Caribbean star Naomie Harris confirmed that she was in the running for the next movie during interviews this week. Casino Royale and Quantum of solace star Daniel Craig will be returning as 007 with Sam Mendes slated to direct.
For those of you who donât recognise the name, Harris has appeared in the second and third instalments of the Pirates franchise alongside appearances in Ninja Assassin and 28 Days Later. The 34-year-old actress, who also appeared in Miami Vice, demanded a body double in that movie after telling director Michael Mann she would not do nudity.
But it appears she has no such concerns about a potential role opposite serial womaniser James Bond telling reporters: âWhat makes them work is that they are responsive to the times. Eva Greenâs character in Casino Royale was not scantily clad. She was an intelligent, strong, modern woman.
âThe older idea of the Bond movie is in the past. Now it appeals to all generations, ages and sexes. Nothing is confirmed, but I would love to be part of the Bond movies.â
Asked about her views on female nudity in films, the actress added, âItâs the objectification that I donât like. I didnât sign up to be a stripper. Iâm very anti the pressure that is put on women to take their clothes off.â
Bond 23 is set for release in October 2012.
JOSH STEWART ADDED TO THE DARK KNIGHT RISES
Given that shooting is already underway on Christopher Nolanâs much anticipated Batman threequel we probably wonât see too many more notable names added to the movieâs already burgeoning cast list. In fact, the announcement that Josh Stewart has clambered aboard might be the last.
Stewart, who is probably best known for his work in The Collector and The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, has taken on an as of yet unknown role for The Dark Knight Rises. Like many of the other recent acting additions, his part may not be significant, but he joins what is looking like an impressive ensemble cast, including Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, as well as newcomers like Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard and Josh Pence.
Quite a lineup eh?
BRAD PITT AND WORLD WAR Z HEAD TO GLASGOW
The Brad Pitt-starring Zombie epic World War Z is set start shooting in Glasgow this summer according to reports north of the border. . The film, based on the Max Brooks book, was written by J. Michael Straczynski and will be directed by Quantum Of Solace helmer Marc Forster.
The film follows a worldwide zombie infestation with the action revolving around a detailed tome of research for the U.N which details every aspect of the war from its economic impact to interviews with survivors. For those of you in Glasgow, filming will take place in and around George Square in August.
And if you fancy shuffling along with the undead masses Scotlandâs Casting Collective is hiring zombie extras, so make sure you get your brain splattered CV in. The film is expected to bring in 1.5 million pounds to the Scottish economy, making World War Z one of the biggest films ever shot in the country.
TOM CRUISE IN TALKS FOR ONE SHOT
Tom Cruise is reportedly in negotiations to star in âOne Shotâ a movie for Paramount Pictures that is set to be written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie whoâs best known for his screenplays for The Usual Suspects and Valkyrie.
Based on the book series by Lee Child, the series follows Jack Reacher, a former military policeman turned drifter. In One Shot, Reacher investigates a case where a sniper is accused of murdering five people before being captured. Part detective story, part thriller, part action tale One Shot is one of a number of Lee Childâs books that are in development but the studio are fast tracking the project in an effort to steal a march on their rivals.
Cruise is currently filming Rock of Ages and has also signed on to star in Joseph Kosinskiâs Oblivion, a film which looks like it will be put on the backburner in favour of this upcoming adaptation.SCISSOR SISTERS WRITING NEW MUSIC FOR FRAGGLE ROCK
There was a time when this yearâs Muppets movie looked like it would have company of the puppet variety with a silver screen adaptation of childrenâs classic Fraggle Rock tipped for development. In fact the project got as far as the scriptwriting process with Hoodwinked scribe Cory Edwards on scribbling duties.
However, creative differences between him and the studio bosses have left the proposed movie in limbo and over the past year the movie has stalled altogether. However, development looks like it could be underway again after music industry reports suggested that musical numbers for the proposed movie are currently being penned by Jake Shears and Babydaddy of disco/glam-pop band Scissor Sisters.
Little else is known about the filmâs development as of yet and whilst the collaboration might seem strange, itâs not as far fetched as you may think. After all, The Scissor Sisters already have a relationship with the Jim Henson Company after the purveyors of puppets designed stage props for some of the bandâs previous tours.
