Shakespeare & Company welcomes back Academy Award-winning actress Olympia Dukakis for a special benefit performance of William Coe Bigelow�s moving drama Leap Year. Google Search phones now available in Arabic and Hebrew

Google announced that its mobile search service now supports Hebrew and Arabic. With this addition of two left-to-right languages, the Search is now available in total of 40 languages for feature phones.

Google mobile new search results format provides more complete support for the universal search results familiar with on your computer. This means that News, Image, Blog, Video and Product Search results blend right into the results pages when available and relevant to your query. Also, many of the favorite Google Search features now appear in the first result in order to provide direct answers to searches.

In the same blog post, Google�s Zhen Wang reminds us that the new search results format provides more complete support for the universal search results we�re familiar with on our computers. Android Developer Challenge 2 open for submissions

The time has come! The submission site for Android Developer Challenge 2 is now open. You can now submit applications for the Challenge at http://market.android.com/adc. Full instructions are also available on the site.

The key thing to remember is that all submissions must be entered by 11:59:59pm Pacific Time in the United States on August 31, 2009. If your applications are not submitted by that time, they won't be eligible for participation. Please carefully note what time that is in your local time zone.

It's very important that your apps only use published APIs. Some users might be judging your submissions on new phones you haven't seen or tested. If your apps depend on unpublished APIs, they might not work on some of these phones. Please note that you won't be able to submit new versions of your apps after the deadline!

Since you'll be competing against developers around the world for users' attention, it is important to focus on the fit and finish of your app. Your apps will be judged by users as a final product and not just a cool demo.

As a final note, if you've uploaded a version of your app to Android Market, you'll need to use a different Android package name for the version you submit to the Challenge.

Free iPhone Games Produces Varying Amounts of Fun

One of the iPhone�s most revolutionary features is its large library of instantly accessible free games.

The question is whether any are worth your time. To find out, I thought I�d put the App Store to the test by downloading the top 10 free titles from the �All Games� category (based on number of recent downloads as of July 17, 2009), and playing each one for as long as it held my attention. The only caveat was a 15-minute time limit for each game. If a free game holds your attention for at least 15 minutes, that�s good.

1. �Wooden Labyrinth 3D Lite�

I had a love/hate relationship with my old tabletop Labyrinth game as a kid. I loved the concept, but I hated how much I sucked at manipulating those little knobs to guide the ball past the holes. The iPhone version, with its simple tilt controls, makes things more enjoyable. I�m surprised how accurate and realistic the physics are, and I love the way the 3-D perspective shifts as you tilt the unit, making the screen feel like a window into an alternate world. The randomly generated levels in this �lite� version are hit-or-miss, but the variable difficulty ensures lot of replay value.

Why Was Google's Voice iPhone App Rejected? Apple Explains...

Apple has officially answered FCC questions about why Google Voice was rejected to appear in App Store. For those who didn�t keep track of the news, Apple rejected the Google Voice application for iPhone and removed all related third-party application from App Store. The rejection has drawn great attention & criticism around the net and even Federal regulators wanted to know why Apple rejected Google�s innovative Voice app from its App Store.

This is not the very first time Apple rejected iPhone applications submitted for App Store. Developers, bloggers and journalists around the net have criticized Apple for rejecting applications especially for those innovative applications trying to add feature and even replace iPhone�s default application like Phone or Mail applications.

Okay, here is the Apple�s answer to FCC�s question on why the Google Voice application was rejected:

Contrary to published reports, Apple has not rejected the Google Voice application, and continues to study it. The application has not been approved because, as submitted for review, it appears to alter the iPhone�s distinctive user experience by replacing the iPhone�s core mobile telephone functionality and Apple user interface with its own user interface for telephone calls, text messaging and voicemail. Apple spent a lot of time and effort developing this distinct and innovative way to seamlessly deliver core functionality of the iPhone. For example, on an iPhone, the �Phone� icon that is always shown at the bottom of the Home Screen launches Apple�s mobile telephone application, providing access to Favorites, Recents, Contacts, a Keypad, and Visual Voicemail. The Google Voice application replaces Apple�s Visual Voicemail by routing calls through a separate Google Voice telephone number that stores any voicemail, preventing voicemail from being stored on the iPhone, i.e., disabling Apple�s Visual Voicemail. Similarly, SMS text messages are managed through the Google hub�replacing the iPhone�s text messaging feature. In addition, the iPhone user�s entire Contacts database is transferred to Google�s servers, and we have yet to obtain any assurances from Google that this data will only be used in appropriate ways. These factors present several new issues and questions to us that we are still pondering at this time.

The answer is not very convincing.

Exploding iPhone Investigation

Apple is investigating media reports of at least one iPhone exploding, a claim which does not stretch far from similarly reported iPod cases.

Media reports claiming that one or more iPhones have exploded in Europe have led Apple to investigate, according to Reuters.

One such report includes the case of an 18-year-old iPhone user in France who claims to have heard a hissing noise coming from his girlfriend�s iPhone before it shattered. The teenager reportedly suffered minimal injuries from the incident, which resulted in his eye being struck by a piece of iPhone glass, as reported by Google.

Helen Kearns, European Commission Spokesperson for Consumer Affairs, explained the following at a news briefing: "Apple has come back to us ... and what they've said to us is that they consider these are isolated incidents. They don't consider that there's a general problem."

"They're trying to get more information on the specific details of those incidents, and they will do tests as necessary to investigate the possible cause," Kearns added.

Although the current media reports share a small amount of explosion cases for the iPhone, numerous similar cases have been reported by users of the iPod. According to Google, in late July, Seattle-based television news station KIRO reported that an �alarming number� of iPods had �suddenly burst into flames and smoke, injuring people and damaging property."

Huawei U8220 will be released via T-Mobile Europe as T-Mobile Pulse

Huawei 8220 Android smartphone via T-Mobile Europe/T-Mobile Pulse just received a Wi-Fi Interoperability Certificate.The Wi-Fi certificate doesn�t say anything about Android, but the Huawei 8220 is almost certainly an Android phone.

Pulse U8220 has just appeared on pre-order at a Dutch retailer�s website for �257 or equal to $366 (free of contract). Sadly, the phone is locked on T-Mobile�s network. The T-Mobile Pulse supports a 3.5 inch touchscreen display with 320 x 480 pixels, a 3.2MP camera, HSDPA 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA 5.76 Mbps, Wi-Fi, GPS, a MicroSD card and Bluetooth 2.0

Nokia has just announced the 5800 Navigation Edition.

5800 Navigation Edition comes with lifetime voice-guided drive and walk navigation licenses. It also features quick access to regional maps with zooming capabilities and the latest Ovi Maps which now boasts of high-resolution aerial images, 3D landmarks in over 200 cities, weather service, premium travel and events content as well as traffic and safety warnings. Needless to say, they�ve souped up this baby to be the frequent traveler�s best friend. Apart from that, everything seems to be the same as its XpressMusic twin as far as its other features are concerned.

It�s priced at �285 or about $405 before taxes and subsidies. No word on when it will exactly be release, but it�s slated to debut this quarter. Aside from the usual package contents, the 5800 Navigation Edition will also ship bundled with an 8GB microSD card, car mount and charger.

Chicken Musakhan

Delicious Palestinian Musakhan recipe with Chicken.

Ingredients

1� kg whole chicken, cut into 4 pieces
6 cups water or 1500 ml
� cup olive oil or 185 ml
3 medium onions or 450 g, sliced
1 cube MAGGI� Chicken Bouillon, crumbled
� teaspoon ground black pepper
2 tablespoons sumac
3 tablespoons pine seeds, toasted
6 loaves iranian bread, cut into 20 square pieces 15x15cm each piece

Preparation

Place chicken and water in a large pot and bring to boil. Remove froth as it appears then simmer for 45-50 minutes or until chicken is cooked. Remove chicken and throw away the water. Set aside to cool. Remove and throw bones and skins. Flake chicken to strips and keep aside.

Warm olive oil in a pot; add onions and fry for 5 minutes or until the onions become tender.

Add the prepared chicken strips, crumbled MAGGI� Chicken Bouillon cube, black pepper, sumac and pine seeds. Simmer and stir for 2 minutes or until all are well combined (add salt if it�s needed).

Add some chicken mixture evenly on a center of each piece of bread. Roll bread and place it in a baking dish.

Brush with some olive oil the top of each roll. Bake in a 230�C preheated oven until bread becomes slightly brown in color.

Chicken Musakhan

Coated Potato and Meat

Ingredients

3 medium potatoes or 750 g
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 carrot, finely chopped
250 g minced beef
� teaspoon ground nutmeg
� teaspoon dried basil
For the coating mix:
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 sachet MAGGI� Coating Mix
2 cups vegetable oil, for frying

Preparation

Boil potatoes for 20 minutes or until tender. Then cool under cold water. Peel and mash.

Heat oil in pan and saut� chopped carrots for 2 minutes. Then add meat and cook for 5 minutes or until meat is brown in color.

Add meat to potato mixture and mix well. Season with nutmeg and dried basil then divide the mixture into equal portions. Shape portions into small patties (around 15 patties). Put patties in fridge for 30 minutes so they become easy to coat.

Dip each potato patty in eggs then in MAGGI� Coating Mix .

Heat vegetable oil to 175�C. Drop a small piece of bread into the hot oil to check the temperature.

Deep fry the potato patties for 5-8 minutes or until golden brown.

Serve hot.

1 onion or 150 g, finely chopped
1 tablespoon pine seeds or 10 g, toasted
400 g minced lamb
2 cubes MAGGI� Chicken Less Salt Bouillon
� cup water or 60 ml
� cup raisins, chopped
� cup low fat mozzarella cheese or 100 g
2 tablespoons coriander leaves, chopped
2 tablespoons fresh mint, chopped
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 packet filo pastry or 375 g

Preparation

Warm olive oil in a pan, cook onion and pine seeds over medium heat for 5 minutes or until golden brown.

Add lamb and cook over medium heat for 5-8 minutes. Add MAGGI� Chicken Less Salt Bouillon cubes and water. Cook for another 3 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.

Add raisins, Mozzarella cheese, coriander, mint and black pepper to the meat mixture. Stir until well-combined.

Cut each Filo pastry sheet into 3 strips. Add a tablespoon of lamb mixture at one end side of the sheet. Fold the ends and roll to form a finger shape. Brush the ends with water to enclose.

Place fingers on an oven tray and bake in a 190�C hot oven for 15- 20 minutes until golden brown.

Serve with green mixed salad.

Want TomTom for iPhone 3G and 3GS? On Sale Now!

The TomTom app for the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS has gone on sale [iTunes link] through the App Store, with versions for the US and Canada, UK and Ireland, Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand all available to download. Prices range from around $74 for the Australian mapping to $132 for the Western Europe setup; that doesn�t include the nifty in-car dock which has a separate GPS receiver and hands-free kit integrated.

How Many 'Very Satisfied' iPhone 3GS customers? 92%+

A new survey reports that the iPhone 3GS has been successful due to the fact that the iPhone continues to be innovative and its customers have stayed loyal to its manufacturing company, Apple.

According to the survey which was conducted by the BC/IQ ChangeWave polling company, over 99% of iPhone customers said that they were �satisfied� with their mobiles and an additional 92% reported they were �very satisfied� with their iPhone 3GS mobiles.

Among the most appreciated features on the iPhone was ease of use for third party applications and its touch screen interface.

The negative reported features of the iPhone include its short battery life, the exclusive contract with AT&T as a network provider, and the lack of support in users� IT departments for the iPhone.

The survey also found that 41% of the people who purchased the iPhone 3GS previously owned the prior model.

Those who purchased the iPhone 3GS for the first time split down the line with 18% switching from a Motorola device, 11% from a Nokia mobile, 6% from a Palm mobile, and 8% from a Sanyo mobile.

Why are iPhone Apps Rejected by the App Store? Here is Why...

After rejections, one Apple executive is trying hard to win customers -- and developers -- back

Apple's app store practices have bordered on schizophrenia, with it frequently accepting applications only to later reject them and rejecting others only to later accept them. Worse yet, frequently rejections seem to follow no consistent pattern, with some apps being rejected for containing some sort of forbidden content, while others with that same content get accepted.

These inconsistencies have led to customers growing dissatisfied with the iPhone -- or in some cases even leaving it. They have also led to a growing discontent among developers, some of whom have also jumped ship. And it has even brought down a government investigation concerning Apple's role in rejecting the Google Voice app.

However, there is one man who hopes to fix the system. Apple�s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing Phil Schiller is trying to right the iPhone App Store and is personally taking a hand in trying to win back customers, developers, and placate government investigators.

iPhone Does Not Make Phone Carriers Any Real Money

The iPhone is one of the most popular smartphones on the market today and the device that most new smartphones look to fight in the market. It seems that almost every new smartphone that hits the market is hailed as an iPhone killer but so far, only the Palm Pre has come close.

InformationWeek reports that the iPhone is a loss leader for every carrier who sells it worldwide. According to new figures from Danish research firm Strand Consult, it was unable to find any carrier who increased profits with the iPhone.

Strand consult wrote in a report, "According to the research we have conducted on the operators, not one of these has increased their market share, revenue, or their earnings as a result of introducing the iPhone. When looking at the numbers we can't see the iPhone effect -- a lot of competitors are actually doing better."

AT&T, the exclusive iPhone provider in America, is a perfect example of what Strand Consult is claiming. According to the research firm, AT&T has spent $720 million in the last quarter to subsidize the iPhone on its network. Over the same quarter, AT&T added 1.4 million wireless subscribers, about two-thirds of which opted for the iPhone.

Providers like AT&T aren�t making huge sums of money on the iPhone, what they are hoping is that the device lures customers away from other carriers and they can make money off lucrative data plans in the future.
