A Tulsa woman bleeds red, white and blue and considers herself an American Flag fanatic.
âI just love red white and blue,â says Shauna Johnston of East Tulsa.
On this Flag Day, FOX23âs Abbie Alford introduces us to woman who has been collecting American flag items for twenty years.
Americans honored June 14th as Flag Day but it wasnât until 1949 it became a National day.
Mrs. Johnston considers everyday Flag Day.
Take a step inside Mrs. Johnstonâs home and youâll feel her love for the stars and stripes.
âMy clocksâ¦picture frames, if you can tell it is a flag picture frameâ¦coastersâ¦look at my little light switch,â says Johnston.
Everyday she pledges her allegiance to the flag.
âDo you see my windows? Do you see the windows? I have a flag on every window,â she says. âI have more hidden in corners. See all of them. These should be out but they will wave away. See I am crazy.â
Mrs. Johnston is a self-proclaimed American flag fanatic.
âMy husband is beginning to hide my stuff. There is just too much,â says Johnston. âPride, red white and blue. If I had my chance to have a Betsy Ross flag I would.â
She digs up an old photo where she is holding her child both were wearing a red, white and blue she also has a hat and soda koozie too.
Mrs. Johnstonâs love for Old Glory started 20 years ago.
âI still have no guts to burn one. I canât burn it,â says Johnston.
She still holds onto the flag that belonged to her grandfather who served in World War II.
âI keep it in my bedroom on a shelf, hidden so no one will take it,â says Mrs. Johnston.
Military runs in her family.
âI have always been patriotic. My boys served and I am proud of them,â says Mrs. Johnston.
The stars and stripes decorate her bedroom. Her bedspread is the American Flag.
âIâm just patriotic, you ought to see my wardrobe,â says Mrs. Johnston.
She has sweaters, shirts, shorts and bathing suits that are American Flag.
Mrs. Johnston keeps a case locked with trinkets.
âDid you see my red white and blue boots?â says she asks.
The Johnston family is proud to be an American.
âCome in the kitchen real quick,â says Mrs. Johnston. Â âI wanted red white and blue flags on my walls my husband said I canât draw that man flags, he says how about slinging it so he slung it. I love it.â
American flag glasses line the shelves.
âIâve got all kinds of things, cookie jar, baking plate, did you see my canisters. I have more but he made me pack some in the attic,â says Mrs. Johnston. âI am telling you I have everything.â
Well almost everything.
âI am getting a shower curtain soon,â says Mrs. Johnston.
She also wants to ride in Old Glory.
âI wanted a white car for my husband to paint but he wonât,â she says.
Her pride flies high not just on Flag Day but everyday.
âI love it, I am not giving something up,â says Johnston. âI am happy to live in America.â
Mrs. Johnston says she doesnât know how many American Flag items she has but she says itâs big enough to pass down to her five children.
